This policy explains what personal information this website collects, why we collect it, who processes it on our behalf, and what you can ask us to do with it.
What we collect and why
When you use our contact form
Our contact form asks for your name and email address (both required), and optionally your organization, a budget range, and the message you write. We use this only to read and reply to your inquiry.
Submissions are emailed to us and are not stored in this website’s database. Your email address is set as the reply-to address so we can respond to you directly. Once your message reaches our inbox it is retained there as an ordinary business record.
When you book a call
Our booking links open Google Calendar appointment scheduling on Google’s own website. Anything you enter on that booking page — such as your name, email address and the details you provide about your request — is collected by Google and handled under Google’s Privacy Policy. We receive the resulting appointment details.
When you click a booking link we also record an analytics event (see Analytics below) noting that a booking link was clicked and which link it was. This event does not include your name or email address.
When you leave a comment
If you comment on an article, we collect the information you type into the comment form — your name, email address and, if you provide one, your website — together with your IP address and browser user-agent string. The IP address and user agent help us detect spam and abuse; the rest is shown or used to attribute and moderate your comment.
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so that follow-up comments from the same person can be recognized and approved automatically instead of being held for moderation.
An anonymized string derived from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture there. The Gravatar privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture — if you have one — is visible next to your comment.
If you upload an image with a comment, avoid uploading images that contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS), because visitors can download such an image and extract that data.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-1NC4FN40RJ), added to the site through the Google Site Kit plugin, to understand how the site is used — which pages are visited, how visitors arrive, and roughly where in the world they are. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes technical information such as your device, browser and approximate location derived from your IP address. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses. Signed-in site administrators and editors are excluded from analytics tracking.
Google’s handling of this data is described in Google’s Privacy Policy. Analytics data is retained for the period configured in our Google Analytics property. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites using Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
Embedded content from other websites
Some articles include embedded content such as videos. Embedded content from another website behaves exactly as if you had visited that website directly: it may collect data about you, set cookies, load additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content.
Cookies
This site uses cookies in the following ways:
- Comment cookies — if you leave a comment you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies, so you do not have to retype them next time. They expire after one year.
- Analytics cookies — set by Google Analytics, as described above.
- Login and administration cookies — set only for our own staff when they log in to manage the site. These are not set for ordinary visitors.
- Performance — our caching layer serves pre-rendered pages to speed up the site; it does not set identifying cookies for anonymous visitors.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking analytics cookies does not affect your ability to read the site or contact us.
Server and security logs
Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses and the pages requested. We also run login-protection and security-monitoring software that records failed login attempts (including the originating IP address) and monitors the site for unauthorized changes. This information is used only to keep the site secure and available.
Accounts
This site does not offer public account registration. The only accounts that exist belong to our own staff, who use them to publish and maintain the site.
Who we share your information with
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that make this site work, and only to the extent each one needs:
- Google — analytics, and appointment scheduling when you use a booking link.
- Automattic (Gravatar) — the hashed email lookup for comment profile pictures.
- Our hosting and email providers — to serve the website and deliver the contact-form messages to our inbox.
- Our security and backup services — which process site data, including comment records, as part of monitoring and backing up the site.
We may also disclose information where we are legally required to do so.
Where your information is processed
We are based in the United States and this website is hosted in the United States. If you contact us from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed there.
What rights you have over your information
You can ask us to give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Deletion does not extend to information we are required to keep for legal, security or accounting reasons. If you have left a comment, you can ask us to remove it.
To make a request, email topete@nowadaysorange.com with enough detail for us to identify the information concerned. We may need to verify your identity before we act on a request.
How we protect your information
The site is served over HTTPS, administrative access is limited to a small number of staff accounts and protected against brute-force login attempts, the site is monitored for unauthorized changes, and we keep regular backups.
Automated decision-making and profiling
We do not make automated decisions about you, and we do not build marketing profiles from your use of this site.
Children
This is a business-to-business consulting website. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change how this site handles personal information, we will update this page and revise the date at the top.
